Imphal, May 02 2013:
Observing that some wealthy traders/businessmen have monopolised trade and commerce of the State and they have been regularly hiking prices of essential commodities every time there is a blockade or bandh, AMSU has warned all traders not to hike price of any commodity unreasonably.
Speaking to media persons at their head-office this afternoon Romen Leishangthem said that they have received reports about traders/shopkeepers selling goods at escalated prices at Imphal.
Saying that AMSU would soon undertake a special driver to check if any shop is selling goods at escalated prices at Khwairamband market, Romen asserted that the State cannot remain a silent spectator to such unscrupulous practices of the traders/business class.
On the other hand, AMSU has informed that barbers should not charge saloon rates prescribed by a notification issued by the Deputy Labour Commissioner on December 28 last year, majority of the barbers have been charging saloon rates prescribed by the notification or higher.
In this connection, AMSU volunteers carried out a campaign at Thangal Bazar, Paona Bazar, Khoyathong and Mantripukhri today, Romen said.
Barbers should charge saloon rates fixed by the notification issued on October 19, 2010.AMSU was never informed before the notification of December 28, 2012 was issued, Romen said.
