Police force open shops

Imphal, December 22 2011:
The shops in Khwairamband Market and its surrounding area, which remained shut down owing to the general strike called by KCP (MC) in protest against the killing Chowkidar of Irilbung Water Supply Scheme Soram Ibomcha and his son, were forced open by personnel of Imphal West District Police today.
The police even used hammer to break the locks to force open the shops at Paona Bazar, Thangal Bazar, Alu Gulli, Dharmashala, etc.
However, the shutters of the shops in Paona International Market and along Masjid Road continued to remain down.
It may be recalled here that Deputy Inspector General of Police (Range-I) cum Senior SP of Imphal West District L Kailun yesterday issued a statement, requesting the shops in Imphal area to open till 7 m every day in view of the upcoming Christimas and New Year festivals.
