Women rally against soaring crime rate

Women vendors of Thoubal Keithel today took out a protest rally against the rising crime rate in the State.
The rally started at Thoubal Mela Ground and terminated at the same point after marching around Thoubal Bazar.
Later a public meeting was held in the same ground.
The protest rally cum public meeting was jointly organised by the Life Care Foundation and Thoubal Keithel Apunba Nupi Lup.
In the course of the protest rally, the women protesters carried placards which read as "Guns and bombs can never bring peace", "We condemn the killing of Dhanamanjuri", "Stop crime against humanity", "Stop bomb blasts", "Give us justice", "Give up peace", "Stop killing innocent people", we want peace" etc.
Later, the public meeting adopted several resolutions the foremost being the call to stop all kinds of crimes and human rights violation by UG groups.
The other resolutions were in the forms of demands to award capital punishment to all those found guilty for murdering women and children, checking of all the weapons seized from UG groups by Government's law enforcing agencies, stop execution of people without conduction trial, set up special investigation commission and pull up those elements who impose blockades on National Highways.
Speaking at the meeting, Thoubal Keithel Apunba Nupi Lup secretary Noyon Leima said that the society has been engulfed with a very restive and insecure situation because of murders for ransom, torture and murder of women, imposition of economic blockades for protracted periods, growth of black-marketing rings in the backdrop of protracted blockades etc.
Today's protest rally was specifically organised to urge the Government to bring a halt to killing of innocent people and also to book the culprits according to law, she said.
Kangleipak Women Welfare Association president AK Memcha decried the murder of innocent Irilbung Water Supply care-taker and his son.
People need not support the bandh called after killing the innocent father-son duo.
Saying that she welcomed the Chief Minister's assurance given today on the floor of the House that murderers of women would not be allowed to go scot-free, Memcha urged the Government the translate the Chief Minister's assurance into action.
