18 SIKH averts IED blast along NH-37

Imphal, December 10 2013:
Personnel of 18 SIKH of 9 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (South) recovered an IED from near Awang Khunou along NH-37 yesterday.
According to a statement issued by PRO IGAR (S), at around 6.50 am, a Road Opening Party (ROP) of 18 SIKH was on its task of clearing the road (NH-37) for the safe passage of convoy of security forces and civil vehicles when they detected a suspicious container wrapped in black polythene kept a few feet away from the road, near Awang Khunou village.

Analysing the situation, the team cordoned the suspected area and stopped the traffic on the road.
The explosive Detector Dog was brought into action and it confirmed the presence of explosives in the suspicious polythene.
Acting on the information, the Army bomb disposal team and Patsoi Police team arrived at the location.
After combined efforts, the IED which weighed approximately 2.5 kgs was destroyed by the Army bomb disposal team at around 9:15 A.M.Effective measures taken by 18 SIKH resulted in the aversion of a major mishap and thwarting the nefarious designs of the UG groups, the statement added.
