Discussion on people's opinions on delimitation begins

The first meeting of the Sub-Committee formed by Hill Areas Committee (HAC) for delimitation of constituencies of Autonomous District Council (ADC), Manipur on August 27, was held on Tuesday at the Committee Room of Manipur Legislative Assembly, wherein opinions of the people submitted with regard to delimitation were discussed in detail.
On the first day of the meeting, which will continue till Wednesday, the district commissioners of Churachandpur, Pherzawl, Ukhrul, Kamjong, Tamenglong and Noney discussed the opinions submitted by individuals, organisations and civil societies of the districts with regard to the upcoming rejigging of ADC constituencies.
Chaired by HAC chairman Dinganglung Gangmei, the meeting was also attended by MLAs Letpao Haokip, Vungzagin Valte, Ngursanglur Sanate, Janghemlung Panmei, Ram Muivah, Let-zamang Haokip, Chinlunthang and SS Olish as members of the sub-committee.
As per the notice issued by the Sub-Committee on August 27 in connection with delimitation of ADC constituencies, all public leaders, civil organisations and stakeholders were to submit in writing their constructive suggestion, opinion, views and other related statements concerning the delimitation, to the HAC chairman by September 5.The Sub-Committee will hold another meeting on Wednesday from 9am to 1pm and it will be participated by district commissioners of Tengnoupal, Chandel, Senapati and Kangpokpi, wherein the advantages and disadvantages of delimitation will be discussed.
Mention may be made here that with regard to the delimitation of constituencies of ADC, Eastern Liangmai Chief and Chairman Association (ICCA), Manipur had declared that Liangmai communities settled in Kangpokpi and Noney districts will not be participating in the delimitation exercise.
Stating that the Association had been urging the state government not to include the Liangmai villages in the formation of Kangpokpi and Noney districts, it said that community has been reduced to a minority in their own land because of some people's political interests.
Thus, it urged for including the Liangmai communities settled in Kangpokpi and Noney districts under an administrative zone, so as to enable the community to participate in the democratic process at the same level and ensure their rights are uphold.
