Public meeting held

Over the shrinkage of Lilong Usoipokpi Ningthi Khong Canal allegedly by the widening project of Imphal Moreh road, a public meeting was convened today at Usoipokpi Bazar and took resolutions.
The meeting was organised by the United Welfare Organisation, Usoipokpi and Lilong Mairenkhun Makha Youth Development Organisation.
Speaking to media persons, president of United Welfare Organisation, Alhaj Nashir Khan said submersion of this canal will cause untold inconvenience to the people residing nearby, especially fishers and farmers.
He said that people of Usoipokpi welcomed the road widening project.
Saying that a memorandum will be submitted to the CM, local MLA, SDO and others concerned to look into the matter and also form a JAC, he appealed to all concerned to dig another canal at a strategic location if burial of this canal is necessary.
If the Government fails to give a positive response within 3 days, people along with the local CSOs will launch an agitation, he added.
