Imphal, February 04 2021:
Mid Day Meal Workers Union Manipur has appealed to the Government and the authorities concerned to release the pending honorarium of the mid day meal workers at the earliest and to increase the honorarium by allocating additional package in the budget of the State.
The union expressed discontentment that the workers have been paid a minimal amount of Rs 1000 for only ten months in a year and they have never received it on time.
The honorarium of the workers are pending from May 2020 till date although the Centre has released Rs 7 crore in time for the mid day meal workers in the country, added the statement.
The union continued that other States have increased the amounts acknowledging the contributions of the workers however for Manipur nothing has been discussed regarding the matter.
The union held a meeting with the Education Minister presenting the plights of the workers but no measures have been taken though the Minister directed the authorities concerned to look into the matter.
Therefore the worker's union urged all the concerned to release the pending honorarium in the interest of the workers and to build proper infrastructure in order to provide nutritious meals to the school children.
Further if their demands are not heeded, the workers may resort to unwanted agitations, added the statement.
