Victim family decries police inaction

Family members of two victims of an alleged physical assault which occured at Poiroukhongjil Maibam Leikai, have decried police inaction regarding the assault case.
Two persons who accompanied a local social worker, Lourembam Sanjoy in visiting an ill relative of the social worker at Poiroukhongjil Maibam Leikai yesterday, was reportedly assaulted on their way by a group of nearly 20 people with rods and sticks.
During a press meet held at Yairipok Yambem today, Sagolshem Juge, uncle of one of the victims, who lodged a police complaint regarding the incident, decried that no police action has been taken.
The complainant, said that the two persons including his nephew Sagolshem Raghu (50) and Yumkhaibam Thambaljao 45 of Andro Awang Leikai who accompanied the social worker in visiting his relative, were badly injured following the alleged sudden attack by the group of people.
The group of people equipped with wooden sticks, iron roads and other weapons were led by Konthoujam Sobhachandra (45) of Poiroukhongjil Awang Leikai, Nongthombam Ibochoubi of Poiroukhongjil Litan Makhong, Pangambam Luwang (40) of Pouroukhongjil Mamang Leikai and Keisham Rajesh, he charged.
Above assaulting the visiting team, two cars on which they were riding were vandalised, he continued.
Although Andro PS was informed of the incident timely, they turned up lately, he alleged while adding that, despite a written complaint being lodged at the police station, no visible action has been initiated so far.
Citing that such incidents of assaults have been frequent in Andro Assembly constituency for the past few years, S Juge expressed suspicion that the incident may be politically motivated.
Police inaction and alleged biasedness in dealing such issues have cast doubt upon all, said Juge who also added that the barbaric act of the assailants have put Poiroukhongjil village in the wrong light.
