Imphal, February 04 2021:
The Covid contract and MTS staff deployed in districts attempted to storm the office of Health Directorate at Lamphelpat, raising the same demands as earlier - extend service period, release pending remuneration.
As the State police locked the gate, the protesters protested outside the Directorate's gate.
They were pacified after the police allowed some of them to meet the Health Director.
According to the protesters, altogether 171 nurses and 177 multi tasking staff were recruited on a contract basis under CMOs concerned.
After the expiry of the first contract in November, the contract was extended for another three months.
Saying that this 2nd contract will expire on February 23 and the Government has opted to end it, they urged the Government to refrain from issuing contract termination orders.
According to late information from one of the contract staff, those who entered the Directorate have submitted a memorandum to the Health Director.
On the other hand, the contract staff who were deployed at three Covid Care Centres - RD Wing, Lamphel, UNACCO, Meitram and Lamboikhongnangkhong also protested near the RIMS gate.
They also stormed the office of the Health Directorate, yesterday.
These protesters said that their contract ended on February 2 last and the Health Directorate had issued a contact termination order on January 29 last.
Some of them also reportedly met the Health Director.
