Imphal, May 02 2012:
Paving way for appointment of disgruntled MLAs to the posts of Parliamentary Secretaries, the State Cabinet today gave its approval to the Manipur Parliamentary Secretary (Appointment, Salary, Allowance, Miscellaneous Provision) Ordinance 2012 .
The meeting of the Cabinet which was held at around 3 pm today at the Chief Minister's bungalow further decided to notify to the Governor in this regard.
According to a Senior Cabinet Minister, once the Governor gave his nod to the Ordinance, some of the MLAs who did not get Ministerial berths are expected to be given the post of Parliamentary Secretaries.
The state Government would be making efforts to pass the Ordinance into Act in the sitting of the next Manipur Legislative Assembly.
The post of Parliamentary Secretaries already exists in some of the North Eastern States like Assam, Mizoram, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, etc and in these states the post has been created under specific norms.
If the same is to be applied in case of Manipur, then the post would be equivalent to that of a Minister of State and enjoy the same perk and allowance.
Moreover, the state government has to provide separate quarters, two vehicles and the fuel required for these two vehicles.
Although the state Government has not yet to decide on the number of posts of Parliamentary Secretaries to be created, it is expected that at least eight posts may be created, the Senior Cabinet Minister added.
