Cases spike day after lift of Covid curbs

After over a fortnight of recording Covid-19 positive cases in single digits, the state on Friday witnessed sharp rise in the number of persons infected with the contagious disease.
The sharp rise in the number of infected persons came a day after the state government lifted all restrictions imposed for Covid-19 management citing improvement in the pandemic situation but retained the mask usage mandate.
Notably, the number of samples tested in the past 24 hours was also one of the lowest in recent times as only 286 suspected cases were screened out of which 10 turned positive.
The positive cases included four residents of Imphal West East denizens while Bishnupur and Chandel districts recorded 2 and one cases respectively.
The first day of April also saw a sudden jump in the daily positivity rate with 3.5 per cent recorded against 0.20 per cent reported on Thursday.
No death cases were reported in the last 24 hours and the toll stands at 2120 .
Till date, the virus has claimed lives of 194 vaccinated people of which 61 had received second doses of Covid-19 vaccine.
In the last 24 hours, 4 patients were discharged from home isolation.
However, 10 already discharged cases, which were pending for update, were added and the total number of discharged cases in the last 24 hours has been calculated as 10.Number of active cases stands at 34 out of which 10 (29.41 per cent) are in home isolation.
There are 297 vacant beds available in JNIMS and 186 in RIMS.
So far, the state has recorded 11,316 positive cases and 118 fatalities since the beginning of the third wave of the pandemic.
The current month has reported 10 new positive cases and 0 fatality.
The weekly number of new cases and new fatalities are 34 and 0 respectively.
According to official reports, the 10 fresh cases included seven males and three females.
The cumulative number of positive cases is 1,37,104 general population - 1,32,090 and CAPF personnel - 5,014) .
Number of recovered cases is 1,34,950 (general population - 1,29,943 and CAPF personnel - 5,007) and number of active cases is 34 (general population - 34 and CAPF personnel 0) .
The recovery rate is 98.43 per cent.
A total of 258 D-type and 79 B-type Oxygen cylinders have been made available to different health facilities in the last 24 hours.
In all, 1995 vaccine doses were administered on Thursday and it took the cumulative number of vaccinated people to 15,40,654, out of which 11,82,576 had received second doses and 66,075 pre cautionary doses.
As per data maintained by The People's Chronicle based on IDSP and CCR reports, number of total cases in different districts are Imphal West (48,710), Imphal East (30,425), Thoubal (10,148), Churachandpur (11,050), Kangpokpi (3130), Tamenglong (3478), Bishnupur (9828), Senapati (2491), Ukhrul (3270), Kakching (6888), Chandel (2717), Noney (1158), Tengnoupal (1199), Jiribam (1111), Kamjong (1036) and Pherzawl (465).Fatality counts in different districts are Imphal West (704), Imphal East (511), Thoubal (189), Churachandpur (168), Kangpokpi (67), Tamenglong (17), Bishnupur (205), Senapati (12), Ukhrul (51), Kakching (122), Chandel (42), Noney (5), Tengnoupal (15), Jiribam (7), Kamjong (5) and Pherzawl (0) .
Data analysed by this daily shows that the rate of infection remains 44,184 confirmed cases per million population (based on projected population of 31,03,000 as per NCP report) against the national average of 30,653 CPM.
Test rate has improved to 5,16,259 tests per million population against the national average of 5,62,658 TPM.
Case fatality rate stands at 1.55 per cent while the cumulative positivity rate stands at 8.56 per cent.
