Academic campaign against drug abuse held

The 93rd Academic Awareness Programme on Prevention of Drug abuse and illicit trafficking was held at CAMPS English Academy, Luwangsangbam today.
It was organized by All Manipur Anti-Drug Association (AMADA) with the objective of uprooting the problem of abuse of drugs and other intoxicants completely from the society.
The programme was presided over by Y.Sundari Leima, Vice-President of AMADA Mayai Loishang, Dr..LIbobi, Secretary of CAMPS English Academy, Ch.
Nabakumar, Principal of CAMPS English Academy and A.Virbhadra as presidium members.
SP Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) Regional Unit Imphal, R.K Ibungosana, Lecturer LML Law College Sapam Dilip and Psychiatrist Dr..HAngomcha attended the programme as resource persons.
Speaking on the topic, 'Drug Abuse prone to young students and its Remedy,' R.K Ibungosana said that drug abuse is the main cause of sexual crimes and the only way to prevent drug abuse is self-reliance, not punishment.
Later, a quiz programme was organized with Bidyananda Haobijam, Louriyam Madona and Longjam Rishikanta of the school emerging the top three winners.
It may be noted here that AMADA has been organizing such awareness programmes at academic as well as community level under its Human Resource Development Wing since October 2006.It has also taken up many activities to prevent drug abuse and intoxicants including the destruction of poppy plants at the Nongmaiching Hills.
