AR seizes heroin, M-16 rifles at Khudenthabi

Imphal, December 03 2013:
Personnel of 24-Assam Rifles posted at Khudengthabi along Imphal-Moreh Road seized 750 grams of heroin (Number 4) along with five M-16 assualt rifles today.
According to sources, the heroin and weapons were confiscated from five persons including a woman, who were travelling in a Tata Sumo.
The Assam Rfiles authorities have not sent out any statement to the press regarding the seizure.
Meanwhile, in yet another major arms haul, 14 Assam Rifles along with Mizoram Police, based on specific information, recovered 16 weapons which included one Light Machine Gun, 10 Assault rifles, four MA-3 weapons and a huge quantity of warlike stores including 39 Grenades, Pistol silencer, telescopic sight, 30 Magazines and a large quantity of ammunition near Serchhip.

According to a statement issued by Lt Col Sunil Rawat, PRO Assam Rifles, the arms and ammunitions were hidden in a vehicle was intercepted by Mobile Vehicle Check Post established along Champhai � Serchhip road.
Two persons, both residents of Champhai, were carrying the weapons, and they have been subsequently arrested.
23 Sector Assam Rifles under IGAR (East) along with the Mizoram State Police has been instrumental in carrying out numerous successful operations in recent past.
It can be traced back that in one of the biggest arms haul, Assam Rifles had recovered 33 automatic weapons along with ammunition earlier this year in March.
The successful operation indicates the excellent synergy between the Assam Rifles & intelligence agencies, the statement claimed.
