Exhaust emission test gets underway

Taking serious note of the increasing level of air pollution in Imphal city for which emissions from vehicles is one major factor, the Manipur Pollution Control Board (MPCB) has been conducting auto exhaust emission test so as to identify vehicles which emit excessive smoke and take up necessary actions according to law.
The auto exhaust emission test started from November 20 and it would continue till December 23.So far, emission level of 150 vehicles including diesel autos have been checked.
Till date, the test was conducted at oil pumps namely Bakliwal Enterprises (North AOC), PCTC (Khoyathong), Imo Filling Station (Singjamei), Krishna Premi Oil City (Moirangkhom), Tidim Service Station (Tidim Road) and Jas Gas (Uripok) .

Similar tests would be conducted at Imphal Oil Agency (Chingmeirong), Kanhai and Sons (Thoubal), Konsam Oil Service (Langthabal), Assam Oil Division (Canchipur), Cargy Fuel Station (Lilong), Imo Filling Station (Singjamei) and Ibochou Service Station (Kakwa) .
For today, the test was conducted at Jas Gas (Uripok) .
According to an MPCB official, the highest emission level detected from the 150 vehicles tested so far was 65 HSU (Hitrides Smoke Unit) which is below the permissible limit of 75 HSU set by the World Health Organization.
Till date, no vehicle has been detected whose emission reaches or crosses the permissible limit, said the official.
