Thoubal, December 03 2013:
Alleging that the concerned authority did not maintain quality in the construction of a two-kilometre stretch Inter Village Road connecting Wangjing and Kairembikhok under Wangjing-Tentha AC in Thoubal district, a local club, Youth Voluntary Organisation (YVA), Wangjing has imposed an indefinite ban on the construction of the IVR.
According to the club, the ban would go on until the authority concerned assured quality maintenance while also urging the concerned authority to respond by Dec 10 .
Speaking to reporters at YVA office today, president of the association, M Sharat Meetei said the IVR remained neglected for the last fifteen years.
The joy of the locals knew no bound when work for blacktopping of the IVR was first started last month, he said.
However, the elation was short-live when they found that the concerned contractors allegedly compromised with quality maintenance.
When the club requested the contractors concerned to discuss the matter, the request was turned down on the excuse that all construction committee members of the IVR are engaged in road construction, he said.
Strongly denouncing the response, the club has been taking a decision to ban the construction indefinitely, the president said.
He further urged the local MLA and the Chief Minister to look into the matter.
