Imphal, April 29 2016 :
Carrying forward their campaign to enact a Constitutional safeguard for protection of the indigenous people of Manipur, the JCILPS hosted public meetings at three different places today.
One such meeting was held at THAU sports complex under the joint aegis of JCILPS and the Thangmeiband United Club (TUC) .
TUC advisors Chingsubam Birachandra, Samurailatpam Dhanachandra and Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibi Apunba Manipur advisor Mayanglambam Ibechaobi attended the meeting as presidium members.
Addressing the gathering, JCILPS co-convenor Advocate Arjun Telheiba decried that the State Government has been sleeping over the three Bills passed by the Manipur Legislative Assembly on August 31 last year.
People should not remain silent even though the State Government has been shirking its responsibility.
There is a need to launch another round of sustained mass movement so as to get all the three Bills transformed into Acts.
The public meetings held today are aimed mobilizing the masses for another round of civil movement, Telheiba said.
Leaving aside the legal validity of Manipurs merger with India, the State Government should be bold enough to inform New Delhi that the merger should not mean extinction of all the indigenous people of Manipur.
All the indigenous people need to stand united and firm against outsiders taking control of Manipurs economy and land, and the possibility of migrants overwhelming indigenous population, Telheiba said.
Similar meetings were also held at Nagamapal Lai Eshing Chaibi complex and Khongman Mangjil.
