Imphal, April 29 2016 :
The All Manipur Government Aided College Teachers' Association (AMGACTA) has today resolved to start an indefinite ceasework strike from May 3 .
A protest demonstration was staged today at Thambal Marik College by the teachers of six Government aided colleges Biramangol College, Thambal Marik College, Liberal College, Kakching Khunou College, Mayai Lambi College and Standard College demanding the State Government to look into the long pending demands of the teachers at the earliest.
AMGACTA president I Borbabu said the association unanimously resolved to launch the indefinite ceasework strike if the State Government fails to execute the demands put forth by the association.
I Borbabu stated that teachers of 6 Government aided colleges have been facing untold hardships for almost 40 years.
The teachers have been demanding salary hike, implementation of UGC's revised pay scale, filling of vacant posts, pension facility and service protection for years.
However, no concrete step has been initiated by the State Government in order to address the grievances, Borbabu added.
Apart from the indefinite ceasework strike, AMGACTA would launch different forms of agitation until the demands are met, Borbabu stated.
