ATSUM lines up agitation

Following the expiry of the ultimatum served by the All Tribal Students' Union Manipur (ATSUM) and Manipur University Tribal Students' Union (MUTSU), the ATSUM in its executive meeting held today unanimously resolved to initiate a course of agitation against the alleged intent and marginalisation of tribal rights in Manipur University and State departments.
In a statement, ATSUM said that as the first phase of the agitation, a sit-in protest will be organised at MU campus on April 30 and May 2 .
The sit-in will be followed by total shutdown of the University on May 3 and 4 which will be followed by bandh and economic blockade.
ATSUM and MUTSU, it may be mentioned, have been demanding the MU authority to revoke two resolutions regarding reservation in MU adopted by the Deans' Committee in its meeting held on April 4.ATSUM and MUTSU had urged the MU authority to revoke the resolutions by April 29 .
ATSUM further said that regarding admission and recruitment in the State or Central Depts/Institutions, it will vigorously attempt to enforce reservation policy as per the Manipur Reservation of Vacancy in Post and Services (for SC and ST) Act, the Central Educational Institutional (Reservation in Admission) Amendment Act, 2012 and Compendium on Reservation for the SC, ST and OBC in Services, Ministry of Personnel, PG & Pensions Department of Personnel Trainings vide No 36011/6/2010-Estt (Res), OM dated June 25, 2010 .
ATSUM also sought the support from all tribal organisations to the movement.
