Imphal, April 29 2016 :
All Manipur Muslim Organisation Co-ordinating Committee (AMMOCOC) has called for the formation of a joint committee of Meitei and Meitei Pangal communities to investigate the death of Sagolsem Prashanta of Kakwa Nameirakpam Leikai.
In a statement, AMMOCOC organisation secretary Md Abdul Quayum said that the matter was discussed in a meeting held today.
Quayum said that it was resolved in the meeting that people must not gather mob or resist police in arresting suspects to investigate the incident.
He further said that the participants of the meeting expressed suspicion that some individuals are intentionally trying to create communal tension between the two communities.
He further said that the incidents of thrashing three youths at Mayang Imphal, killing of Chinaoshang and Pitaranjan were also deliberated at length during the meeting.
The meeting strongly condemned all these incidents which could ignite communal flare-up, he said.
In his statement, Quayum further said that he was present at the spot when police and forensic experts team recovered Prashanta's body from Lilong.
Quayum said that police allegedly told him that there was no injury mark or bruise on Prashanta's body and he might have killed himself.
As such, it is necessary to find out whether Prashanta came to Lilong alone by foot or he was brought by somebody as there was no passenger service late in the night, he said.
Quayum further said that it is also necessary to investigate whether Prashanta used intoxicants or his mind was disturbed that night as he came alone by foot from Kakwa Nameirakpam Leikai to Lilong.
