Imphal, April 29 2016 :
National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme (NVBDCP), Imphal West observed World Malaria Day
under the theme, 'End Malaria for good' at Irom Meijrao community hall today.
Speaking at the occasion as chief guest, Imphal West CMO
H Kula said that the day was observed in all the nine districts
of the State.
Saying that the State is not free from malaria, Kula said that
the disease mainly spreads at the time of the year when there
are stagnant waters.
As the disease even takes the lives in hill areas, there is
need for mass awareness to check it, he added.
Imphal West Malaria Officer N Thoinao said stagnant
waters must not be kept in surrounding areas to check spread
of the disease.
He further said that using mosquito nets is another means
to avoid mosquito bites and spread of malaria.
Saying that chemically treated mosquito nets are distributed
by the Government from time to time, Thoinao further said
that medicines and testing kits are now available in most of
the health centres.
