Vehicles sans registration number plates will be seized: Transport Department

As part of the safety measures taken up by the State Transport Department, all vehicles failing to fix registration number plates will be seized by the department from March 28 .
All types of vehicles driving without registration number plates will be seized now under Motor Vehicle Act 1998, a Transport Department official told Hueiyen Lanpao on Friday.
Expressing concern about the growing traffic accidents, he said the ever-increasing number of vehicles in the State has caused serious disturbances to the public.
Certain difficulties are faced by the police to track vehicles which do not have registration numbers when accident happens, he said.
All such vehicles will be fined Rs 2,000-5000, the official added.
On the other hand, a number of Tata tippers and trucks which were found operating without possessing proper documents and high security registration plates were fined by the authority of the Transport Department on Friday.
The official said some Rs 2 lakh was collected as fine from such vehicles during a drive conducted by the department this month.
The drive was carried out under the supervision of inspector of the transport authority, Th Dinachandra.
Dinachandra said Tata Sumo and DI Tata passenger vans servicing on Imphal-Moreh road are often found carrying over loads and causing mishaps and hence seizing of these vans will also be started.
He informed that the department has detected as many as 200 vehicles including two-wheelers and four-wheelers which have double registration numbers as of now.
Dinachandra appealed to the public to possess proper vehicle papers and to pay tax on time.
