State logs record spike of 666 new cases; 17 die
Fatality rate exceeds national average, positivity rate remains high

Imphal, May 12 2021: The state on Wednesday logged yet another record spike of 666 new cases along with 17 fatalities as the pandemic continue to sweep the state.

With the addition of 666 new cases, the active caseload has swelled to 5272 of which 3128 are recuperating in home isolation and the remaining 2144 (40 per cent) are undergoing treatment in hospitals and Covid Care Centres.

As the official fatality count reached 526, the fatality rate has reached 1.42 on Wednesday, which exceeds the national average of 1.09 per cent.

Daily positivity rate also remains above 15 per cent for over two weeks leading to rapid rise in cumulative positivity rate.

So far, 5450 cases were added to the tally since May 1 including 3683 cases reported in the last seven days.

In term of fatalities, 121 death cases were added to the tally since May 1 including 92 in a week's time.

With almost half of the hospitalised patients requiring oxygen support, number of fatalities in the age group of under-45 is also increasing.

However, the most vulnerable group of people are still those in the age group of 46 to 80 years of age, which accounts for 78 per cent of the total fatality count of the state.

According to official reports, the 666 new cases include 659 persons (364 male & 295 female) from among the general population and 7 personnel from Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) .

Their samples were tested at JNIMS (93), RIMS (60), Imphal East (12), Imphal West (28), Maipakpi (11), Mother's Care (6), CMC (4), Gilead Health Care Centre (3), RD Wing (7), Raj Medicity (66), Iboyaima Hospital (1), Jivan Hospital (7), Shija Hospitals (37), Babina Diagnostics (90), Escent Diagnostics (46), Thoubal (31), Bishnupur (40), Kakching (53), Churachandpur (32), Senapati (8), Tamenglong (4), Kangpokpi (3), Kamjong (2), Noney (8) and Ukhrul (14) .

The positive cases from among the general population are from Imphal East (171), Imphal West (252), Thou-bal (34), Bishnupur (48), Kakching (60), Ukhrul (15), Churachandpur (43), Chandel (3), Senapati (13), Tamenglong (4), Kangpokpi (6), Kamjong (2), Tengnoupal (1) and Noney (7).All necessary measures like containment and contact tracing are in place.

The 17 fatalities reported on Wednesday include a 57-year old female (IW), a 69-year old male (IE), a 67-year old male (IE), an 81-year old male (CCpur), a 51-year old male (CCpur), a 55-year old male (Tbl), a 64-year old male (IE), a 55-year old male (IE), a 56-year old male (IW), a 54-year old male (Bpr), a 58-year old male (IE), a 74-year old male (IE), a 67-year old female (IE), a 64-year old male (Kak), a 84year old female (IW), a 76-year old female (Tbl), and a 65-year old male (IE) who died at Shija Hospitals (3), DH Churachandpur (2), DH Thoubal (1), Raj Medicity (1), RIMS (4) and JNIMS (6) hospital respectively.

The cumulative number of deaths has reached 526 .

In the last 24 hours, 358 persons were discharged from CAPF (12), home isolation (269), RIMS (3), JNIMS (12), RD Wing (12), BB (9), SHRI (15), CCC Bishnupur (5), CCC Ukhrul (10) and CCC Chura-chandpur (11) .

The cumulative number of positive cases has reached 37,036 (general population -33,361 and CAPF personnel - 3,675).Number of recovered cases is 31,238 (general population - 27,741 and CAPF personnel - 3,497) and number of active cases is 5272 (general population - 5099 and CAPF personnel - 173) .

The recovery rate is 84.34 per cent.

In the last 24 hours, 1068 D type Oxygen Cylinders and 407 B-type Oxygen cylinders have been made available to different health institutions and health facilities in the state.

So far, 2,82,958 individuals have received Covid vaccines, the CCR report said.

Meanwhile, 16 persons have been found positive of Covid-19 during RAT conducted in Kakching district on Wednesday.

Nine of them were tested at the government testing centre and they are from Kakching Phoushupat Leikai (1), Kakching Wairi Leis-hangthem Pareng (3), Kakch-ing Paji Leikai (3), and Lamjao Mayai Leikai (2) .

On the other hand, seven positive cases were detected at Jivan Hospital and they are from Kakching Paji Leikai (1), Kakching Chumnang Leikai (1), Kakching Ningthou Leikai (1), Kakching Khunyai Leikai (1) and Imphal West (2).Data analysed by this daily shows that the rate of infection remains 11,936 confirmed cases per million population (based on projected population of 31,03,000 as per NCP report) against the national average of 17,742 CPM.

Test rate has improved to 2,08,424 tests per million population against the national average of 2,21,022 TPM.

Case fatality rate rose to 1.42 per cent.

In the past 24 hours, only 3520 samples were tested and the single day positivity rate was 18.92 per cent while the cumulative positivity rate further rises to 5.73 per cent.
