Jiribam, July 08 2014:
In the wake of continued total blockade of Jiribam-Imphal highway demanding posting of required teachers and infrastructure in educational institutions of Jiribam sub-division, the ADC Jiribam held talks with the leaders of agitating student bodies today.
However, the talks between the ADC Jiribam and representatives of AMSU District Committee, Jiribam; MSF, Special Branch; DESAM Local Council and KSA Jiribam Unit could not bring any amicable settlement to the present issue.
The four student bodies have been resorting to total blockade of the highway from July 5 last demanding redressal of shortage of teachers and infrastructure in the school from primary to secondary level in Jiribam.
During the talks with student leaders today, Dr.Harmit Singh Pahuja, ADC Jiribam, reportedly appealed to the students to call off their stir in the interest of general public as the state government had discussed the issue at the Cabinet meeting and there is belief that the matter would be resolved soon.
Recalling the government's failure to materialise their demands in spite of MoU agreement signed earlier, the student leaders stated that they would continue their stir until an official notification to fulfil their demands is issued by the Manipur government.
Seeing no concrete solution during the talks, the student leaders reportedly left the ADC office.
Expressing pleasure over the Manipur Government's belated commitment to redress the grievances of educational institutions in Jiribam, the student leaders expressed dissatisfaction over the apathy of the state government until severe forms of agitations are launched.
