Solar home lighting systems were distributed to bene-ficiaries belonging to Maram tribe today at Kuki Inn here in addition to launching ambu-lance vans.
The function organised by the Department of Tribal Affairs and Hill, and Depu-ty Chief Minister Gaikha- ngam, RD&PR Minister Francis Ngajokpa and Chief Secretary PC Lawmkunga attended the function as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
Speaking at the occasion, Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam observed that Maram tribe has achieved commendable progress since they were introduced to Western education by Christian Missionaries.
Maram tribe has been making rapid strides in different sectors even though their population is not very big.
One solar lighting system and a solar lantern each were distributed to 123 beneficiary households under the Ministry of Triba Affairs's scheme called Conservation cum Development Plan for Maram Primitive Tribe of Manipur.
Moreover, one ambulance van each for Wilong Circle, Maram Circle and Senapati Circle were launched under the Mobile Medical Care Programme.
It is said doctors, nurses and drivers required for the Mobile Medical Care Programme have been already engaged.
The function culminated with presentation of different traditional dance and music programmes of Maram tribe.
