Explosives seized

Perahps, a major blast in Imphal area has been averted following arrest of a 35 year old man from Paona Bazar area by a team of Imphal west Commando.
Acting on his disclosures, commandos have seized a large quantity of war like explosive materials from Lilong area.
After receiving a specific information, a team of Imphal West District Commando arrested Md Atao Rahaman 35 s/o Md Tomba of Lilong Chingkham Mamang Tamya Shumang from Paona Bazar area at around 3 pm who reportedly disclosed that he is working for the CorCom.
He also revealed that he was involved in carrying out a hand grenade attack upon 40 Assam Rifles posted at Lilong in January and also in planting IED near the Lilong AR post, sources conveyed.
He further disclosed that he was planning to carry out an IED attack at Babupara area today under the instruction of one self styled Major Tombi @ Boiler of KYKL.
Subsequent upon the arrest and his disclosures, a combined team led by OC Imphal West (Commando) Inspector Sanjoy, troops of 40 AR Lilong post led by Major Kartik and Thoubal Commando led by OC (Cdo) Anand conducted an operation at Fountain English School at Lilong Tamya and recovered a huge quantity of explosive materials which were found buried inside the school compound later in the evening.
The seized explosive materials include two Chinese hand grenades along with detonators, two improvised explosive devices along with electronic detonator, one IED remote control, two 9 volt batteries and one 66 mm anti-tank rocket with shell.
Police have taken up a case regarding the recovery and the arrest.
