Imphal, May 16 2015 :
Some young achievers in Manipur now are not free from the Modi wave engineered by the BJP before and after capturing power at the Centre.
And the Obama wave emanating from United States of America has also touched the hearts and minds of these students.
This is what Hueiyen Lanpao discovered while speaking to two High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) examination 2015 toppers whose results were declared
on May 14 .
Toijam Sanjina who secured second position in the recently declared HSLC examination says Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is her ultimate icon.
She attributes the choice of the figure to her continued admiration for Modi.
When asked about the latest achievement of Narendra Modi, she minced no words in stating that Modi's visit to China can be rated as a progressive move and a goodwill gesture for bringing about a thaw in much soured Sino-India relationship due to protracted border issue.
When asked how she picked up so much of knowledge on international issues, she said she is a regular reader of Hueiyen Lanpao English Edition.
When queried on how Hueiyen Lanpao English Daily helped her in understanding current affairs, she said: "The editorials in Hueiyen Lanpao are easy to understand and help me make sense of the affairs of the State.
Reading them regularly sharpens my knowledge of events and views.
Moreover, the reports in Hueiyen Lanpao helped me in honing my skills on report writing in English" .
Victoria Ngangbam who secured third position in the HSLC examination says her idol is the US President Barrack Obama.
She says Obama's way of addressing the public impresses her.
The iconic American leader's public speeches radiate confidence while maintaining absolute politeness, she opines.
From their choices of icons, one may assume that these two toppers might opt for careers in politics.
However, politics is not in their minds.
Sanjina wants to serve Manipur by becoming a Doctor and providing healthcare to all while Victoria nurtures the dream of becoming a successful civil servant.
Victoria's idea of a developed Manipur is improving roads and surface transport system so that the state can usher in economic prosperity besides maintaining peace and harmony.
