JAC, family claim bodies

Following an understanding arrived at between the representatives of JAC and State Government yesterday, bodies of Moirangthem Dayananda (20) s/o Bihari of Patsoi Part-III and Maibam Premananda (21) s/o Bihari of Haorang Keirel, who died in the custody of KRF in Thingsat village on May 10, have been claimed by JAC and family members from RIMS morgue this morning.
The two bodies have been lying in the morgue ever since police brought the bodies from Thingsat village on May 13 .
Since early morning, a large number of locals of Patsoi and Haorang Keirel, who came in different vehicles, gathered at RIMS morgue to take the bodies to their native villages.
Later, they carried the bodies through a procession up to their native villages, where last rites were performed.
A police team led by SDPO M Roni and Imphal West commando DSP Netrajeet escorted the procession to thwart any unwanted incident.
The procession passed through Uripok Kangchup road, Naoremthong, Tera bazar and Imphal-Jiribam road to reach the native villages of Dayananda and Premananda.
Meanwhile, body of the man, who was injured in a mob violence during the JAC sponsored 24-hour general strike at a paddy field between Haorang Keirel and Lamsang and later succumbed to injuries on the way to RIMS hospital on May 15, have been claimed by his family today.
The deceased have been identified as Sengam Haokip (50) s/o Nehkam of Kesolung village, Kangchup.
