Shija Hospital to conduct cornea transplant

In a move to give an extra edge on eye care, Shija Eye Care Foundation is going to conduct cornea transplant.
For the same purpose two corneas are being procured from Madurai.
In a press conference held at the auditorium of the hospital on Saturday Dr Palin Managing Director of Shija Hospital said that they have started scouring every district of the State to monitor the eye care needs under the guidance of Lions Arvind Institute of Community Opthalmology Madurai.
So far Shija Eye Care foundation has done several cataract operations to prevent blindness and the foundation targets to conduct 22,000 such operations in the near future, Palin added.
Addressing the conference in presence of the officials from Madurai, Palin informed that the foundation has subsidised the fee where a person can have eye check up with a Rs 20 ticket.
Further when operation is needed a sum of just Rs 1000 is charged which everyone can afford.
To meet our target of 22,000 cataract operations a 100 bedded hospital is planned for which spade works at Shija Hospital are geared up.
In Manipur, 80 percent of the cataract operations done so far are conducted by Shija Eye Care Foundation .
Altogether 2000 cataract operations out of 3500 were conducted last year in the Shija Hospital.
He further said that the State is in need of eye bank.
Dr.Noorika Consultant Opthalmologists, MS Sashipriya, Senior Faculty, Lion's Arvind Institute of Community Opthalmology Madurai also took part in the press meet.
