In Kakching, 240 people from 110 households in Kakching Chumnang Ward 4 were tested of which four were confirmed for Covid-19 while in Thoubal, 112 households in Charangpat Maning Leikai and 90 households in Wangjing Hodamba were covered during the test with 46 people found positive.

Moreover, 36 people in Charangpat Maning leikai and 10 people in Wangjing Hodamba also turned positive for Covid-19 .

Meanwhile, home-to-home testing was conducted at Thanga Samukol in Bishnupur district (67 people from 30 households) but no one was found positive.

Meanwhile, Patsoi AC MLA AK Mirabai Devi has appealed to the state government to halt all development works and instead focus on increasing the number of ICU beds and oxygen supply in the state.

As part of the house-to-house mass testing programme taken up by the government, a mass Covid-19 testing drive was carried out at Taobungkhok Awang Leikai on Sunday.

Speaking on the sidelines of the programme, Patsoi AC MLA AK Mirabai Devi said that the Covid-19 positivity rate in the state is rising at an alarming rate.

However, despite the rise in cases, there is still shortage of ICU beds and oxygen.

"It is heartbreaking to witness the people suffering from loss of their loved ones due to the pandemic", the MLA expressed, while urging the government to increase the number of ICU beds in hospitals and help save precious human lives.

Regarding the overflow of Covid-19 positive patients at the Community Home Isolation Centres opened at State Academy of Training (SAT), Takyelpat and St Joseph Higher Secondary School, Sangaiprou; the MLA said that requests have been made to the DC Imphal West and SDO Patsoi to increase the capacity of the centres.

"The elected representatives have taken an oath to serve and protect the people", she noted, while appealing to the government to do all that are necessary including reviving the defunct 100 ICU beds in JNIMS, thereby addressing the people's grievance of lack of beds.
