A group of individuals allegedly burned down a house belonging to a local of Dampi village, under Kumbi PS, Churachandpur district at around 7.30 pm of March 6.Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club today, the victim, one Jamkholen Lhugdim (50) narrated that a water supply scheme was installed for the village under the Non Lapsable Central Pool of Resource (NLCPR) sometime last year but issues cropped up later due to shortage of water even for the locals of the village.
Due to the shortage, restrictions were placed on giving water to locals of other villagers as well as wastage of water and this led to some difference of opinion among the villagers, he said, claiming that on March 6, at around 7.30 pm, the chief of his village, Lalboi Lhundim, suddenly came to his home along with a group of people and set fire to the house after pouring petrol.
The villager alleged that when he tried to stop the gang, two individuals Jamkhoson and Paolenlal brought out some guns/firearms and threatened him.
Pointing out that his properties went up in flames, Jamkholen Lhugdim said that a complaint has been registered at the police station regarding the incident.
He then appealed to the authorities concerned to deliver justice at the earliest.
