1 CDO killed, 16 others injured as IED rips through Durga Puja site at Thangal Bazar

At least one commando personnel of Imphal West was killed while 16 others sustained injuries with some critically when a powerful Improvised Explosive Device (IED) went off at a temporary Durga Puja worshipping place at Thangal Bazar MG Avenue few steps away from City Police Station today around 7.50 pm.
The slain CDO jawan has been identified as Mayanglambam Ibotomba (29) of Lilong Arapti.
He was rushed to Shija Hospital but succumbed to the injuries at around 9.30 pm.
Another commando jawan identified as Ahongsangbam Milan from Kwaksiphai was one of the injured persons in the blast and is undergoing treatment at Shija Hospital.

Police sources said there were large numbers of people gathered in the area when the IED ripped through the worshipping place.
The deceased and the injured CDO personnel were deployed at the area for security.
Plastic chairs kept at the worshipping place for visiting guests were shattered from the magnitude of the blast.
A new motor cycle parked nearby the area which is to be given away as the first prize of a housie play to be held in the area was also damaged in the blast.
Following the blast, the proposed housie play has been cancelled and ritual performances at the worshipping place have been also halted.
Shortly after the blast, police personnel deployed in and around the area rushed to the blast site and extended helps in admitting the injured persons at RIMS Hospital.
Imphal West SP and top police officials arrived at the area and inquired about the blast.
MLA of Thangmeiband Assembly Constituency, Kh Joykishan also came in to take stock of the incident.
Out of the 16 injured victims, there included three Meiteis and one Kabui.
The other remaining including five young children are all non-locals.
The injured persons have been identified as Thangjam Rohit (30) s/o Th Naba of Paona Bazar; Khangembam Suraj (18) s/o Kh Ibomcha of Keishampat Keisham Leikai; Chungthonglong Kamei (30) s/o (L) Mangolsana of Paona Bazar; Arjun Batu (30) s/o (L) Sukhdev Bahadur from Bihar but presently staying in a rented house at Wangkhei; Bidyalaya Lal (41) s/o (L) Toiram from Bihar but presently staying at Majorkhul; Seityanarayan Sharma (40) s/o (L) Ramkumar from Rajasthan but presently staying at Thangal Bazar; Toilal Sahani (40) s/o Rangi Sahani from Bihar but presently staying at Paona Bazar; Ranjit Sahani (30) s/o Mahesh Sahani of Paona Bazar; Mulal Salai (50) s/o Suraj Salai from Bihar but presently staying at Nagamapal; Priyokumari (8) d/o Rambabu from Bihar but presently residing at Thangal Bazar; her sister Khusi Rai (10); Neha Rai (6) and few others.
Amongst the injured victims, some were admitted at RIMS Hospital while few others who received grievous injuries in the blast are undergoing treatment at Shija Hospital.
Director and Medical Superintendent of RIMS Hospital personally inspected condition of the injured persons who were admitted at the hospital.
