Imphal, October 01 2014:
Condemning the obstruction of road-passage at MG Avenue due to the Durga Pooja celebration underway at MG Avenue, Indigenous People's Association of Kangleipak (IPAK) has alleged that the Imphal West district Deputy Commissioner and the City Police remain as mere spectators.
They have been facilitating the revellers of Durga Pooja against the public convenience.
Speaking to mediapersons at a press meet held at IPAK office, chairman IPAK Sapamcha Jadumani asserted that the devotees of Hindustani Samaj in the name of Durga Puja give a major road obstruction at MG Avenue area creating inconvenience to the general public while driving at MG Avenue.
This year too the devotees in the name of the festival have blocked the road completely since September 23.The festival would be continued till October 4 and they have taken permission to use loud speakers during the celebration from the Imphal West DC.
Condemning the obstruction, IPAK on September 29 submitted an appeal to the DC.
Considering the appeal and inconvenience faced by the general public, the DC ordered the devotees of Hindustani Samaj to leave half-passage of the entire road width.
However, the Hindustani Samaj devotees hasn't followed the order yet.
The devotees have left 7.5 feet out of the total width of the road which is 30 feet, which was not what the DC ordered, Sapamcha Jadumani denounced.
He said, "Why the DC and the City Police have not done anything but look still at it? The revellers of the Hindustani Samaj took permission to use loud speakers for 12 days and blocked the road-passage completely thereafter.
The non-local devotees of the Hindustani Samaj have been taking such disturbing advantages for decades now, he alleged.
The violation of law and public interest in the name of religion should be stopped at the earliest.
He questioned, "Why the DC and the City Police have not punished the lawbreakers who did not heed the order passed by the DC himself?" Appealing the DC to take prompt action against the law breakers IPAK urged the Imphal West DC to look into the matter seriously and not to encourage any activity which may hurt the public sentiment.
