Chief Minister Okram Ibobi today visited Porompat and inspected the ongoing construction and infrastructure development works of Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS).
The inspection visit of the Chief Minister assumes significance for an official team of the Medical Council of India (MCI) would be visiting Imphal to assess infrastructure available at the medical institution.
The State Government is planning to commence the maiden session of JNIMS from July this year.
The State Government's earlier plan to commence session from last year had to be deferred as the MCI team was not satisfied with the infrastructure available at the institution then.
Speaking to a gathering at JNIMS conference hall during his inspection visit today, O Ibobi asked officials concerned to submit necessary proposals so that the institution can be readied at the earliest.
He appealed to the general public to keep medical institutions located in Manipur at par with other medical institutions based in other parts of India.
The Chief Minister also exhorted doctors to serve patients at the best level.
He underscored the importance of discipline and dignity in human society.
Speaking at the occasion, Health Minister Ph Parijat hailed the Chief Minister for paying extra attention to construction and infrastructure development work of JNIMS.
Till date, more than Rs 26 crores have been spent on infrastructure development work of JNIMS during the first and second phases.
The Chief Minister was accompanied by Works Minister K Ranjit, IFC Minister N Biren, PDA Chairman Dr Kh Loken, relevant engineers, JNIMS Director and also the Medical Superintendent.
