Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) today launched its much awaited 3G mobile services in the state with a function held at Imphal Telephone Bhavan, Bapupara.
Chief General Manager of BSNL NE Circle-II, Ranjan Sanyal launched the service which would provide high quality multimedia features like video calling, high speed internet browsing through Mobile phone/Data Cards and also subscribers can enjoy Live Mobile TV & VoIP services on 3G Compatible mobile phone.
Speaking on the launch of 3G services, Ranjan Sanyal said with the launching of the 3G service expressed happiness stating that Manipur has now the most sophisticated mobile technology service like in other part of the globe.
The 3G Service launched today is the first of its kind within the operational area of the BSNL, NE-II Circle Others at Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh and two districts of Manipur, Churachandpur and Senapati will come up soon, he said.
The service launched today will cover surrounding of Imphal city Porompat, Lamlong Bazar, Chingmeirong, Koirengei, Thangmeiband, Lamphel Exchange, Tera Bazar, Langjing, Kwakeithel, Singjamei Bazar, Manipur University, Kongba Bazar etc., he added.
It will offer 2G to 3G is free for migration, 70 paisa per minute for local video call and Re 1 for STD Video call and Rs 179 for activation of new 3G USIM, he said.
The 3G is the next generation of mobile communications systems.
It enhances the services such as multimedia, high speed mobile broadband, internet access with the ability to view video footage on your mobile handset.
The 3G gives unbelievable download speeds up to 2Mphs.With lighting fast download speeds on your mobile you can experience the future of mobile service technology, Ranjan said.
"Now you can have the entire world in your fist.
With introduction of these facilities the people of Imphal City can be face to face within the city, at any moment, at any time, anywhere in the world," he attracted the gathering with proud at the launching of the new service.
Subscribers of BSNL mobile service can migrate by applying to any BSNL Franchise/retailer for prepaid while for the postpaid, they need to fill a 2G-3G form available either from nearby BSNL CSC or BSNL Franchise and submit for migration.
No additional charge will be imposed, said officials at the BSNL office, he added.
Chief Engineer Electrical of NE, Rajiv Sony addressing at the launching function said that the only problem facing in the state in providing mobile service is the power (electricity) problem.
"In outskirt of Imphal city, power supply is very bad, hardly two hour power in a day in this area.
But despite the fact, BSNL authority is trying its best not to disturb its service by extra efforts," Rajiv observed.
The BSNL authority in Imphal also started taken up steps to introduce Digital Satellite Phone service and Wireless Rural Broadband service in the remote areas of the state where there is bad telecommunication systems, Arjun Singh GM (Sales and Marketing), NE-II Circle speaking on the occasion said.
The BSNL is also planning to introduce WiMax Service, he said adding that installation of five towers will start at the earliest.
The service tower will be installed at Swambung in Imphal east district, Thoubal and Kakching in Thoubal district, Kangpokpi in Senapati district and Churachandpur district.
Currently, 28 towers of WLL service which is operating from Dimapur WLLMSC.
There is a plan to install an operational unit in Imphal also with installation of 33 additional towers, he added.
