Imphal, March 20 2010:
Reacting sharply to the statements given by MLA Surchandra at the inaugural function of the State level Juva Kriti and Cultural Festival, the proscribed RPF remarked that the MLA's words sounded like a teaser while deliberately acting unaware of the prevailing political situation of Manipur.
A press release issued by the outfit's Department of Publicity chief GM Changjou pointed out that forefathers of the present generation managed to save Manipur from several external threats and aggression on numerous occasions with their own blood and sweat.
In the present situation, it is pertinent to ask whether one should act like MLA Surchandra delivering speeches in public platforms as a patriot and a pro-Indian leader, or should one join the liberation movement for the sake of future generations.
Observing that alleged excesses committed by the State have widowed many women while modesty of many others have been outraged; hundreds of mothers separated from their darling sons and daughters, many others have been maimed for life while many others have been languishing inside dark cells of prison, the outfit alleged that all these are gifts of political leaders like MLA Surchandra.
The people of Manipur are patriotic by nature and they can never tolerate domination by 'others'.
The evolvement of the Meira Paibi movement from anti-drug/intoxicant movement to human rights protection movement, largely directed against security forces can be attributed to the patriotic national character of Manipuris, the outfit claimed.
Noting that the Meira Paibi movement is a unique and rare movement in the whole world, the RPF lambasted MLA Surchandra for reportedly deriding the same movement as a movement of laziness and wastage of time.
Some elected representatives have been continuously betraying the land.
They harboured an intention to keep Manipur under the alien rule.
At the same time, they have the courage to overlook all the incidents of harassments and killings of Northeastern people at Delhi.
The so called MLAs and Ministers do not have the capacity to convincingly raise any issue concerning the people of Manipur once they cross the boundary of the State.
But there has been no respite in their activities aimed at devastating the land, it alleged.
