Ukhrul/Imphal, April 29 2015 :
The UNC sponsored 48-hour bandh concluded peacefully in all Naga areas of the state on Wednesday.
The hill districts in general and Tamenglong and Ukhrul in particular were affected by the agitation.
The UNC has been stating that the Nagas in Manipur no longer want to stay under the Manipur government.
It is therefore demanding an alternative arrangement.
For all practical purposes, the State Government which opposes the campaign did not take note of the 48-hour total blockade.
All educational institutes, markets, offices and business centres were closed down.
There was no movement of vehicles.
However, there was no report of any untoward incident during the blockade.
In Ukhrul District, the concluding day of the bandh also witnessed closure of all commercial establishments while vehicles remained off the town's main road.
Vehicles stayed off the roads in both state and national highways in the district.
Students of some schools were seen attending classes while most government offices remained closed.
Though state security forces like police and Manipur Rifles personnel could be seen keeping vigil in some strategic points of the town areas, there were no reports of any untoward incidents from any part of the district till the filing of this report.
