UDWJA launches tree plantation programme to salvage Kuiva Kajo heritage

Ukhrul, July 19 2018:
Ukhrul District Working Journalists Association (UDWJA) is launched a tree plantation programme to help preserve the historic site of Kuiva Kajo/Thingna Chiphan Kong of Hunphun village which is located about 1 km west of main town (Ukhrul district headquarters), by regenerating its green cover with valuable trees.
UDWJA on Thursday executed a first phase of its tree plantation programme at the heritage site under the theme Plant Trees, Save Earth' which was kicked off by District Forest Officer, Ukhrul Shanngam Shaliwo.
Speaking at the occasion, DFO Shaliwo lauded the Ukhrul's journalists association for taking the initiative to do their mite in improving the forest cover at Kuiva Kajo heritage, stating that the same has come as a welcome boost for the efforts of the Forest Department in addressing environmental issues in the district.
Shaliwo who planted a sapling at the heritage site, also assured UDWJA members of every possible assistance from the district Forest Department in executing such plantation programmes in future.
During the first phase, UDWJA members and volunteers cleared off masses of shrubs and bushes and planted different species of saplings including Uningthou (Bonsum), Yongchak (Perkia), and Wallnut.
A potential tourist site, heritage has a panoramic surroundings with a cliff like elevated top Kuiva Kajo spanning a vast steep side over the river Thingna Chiphan Kong.
It is accessible by a lone rugged road from Alungtang of Hunphun village.
UDWJA has set a target to plant more number of trees at the site in a phased manner to help preserve the aged, popular recreational heritage from being gradually relegated into oblivion.
