Gen strike concludes

Imphal, July 19 2018:
The 48 hours general strike called by Manipur University Students' Union (MUSU) demanding immediate removal of Professor Adya Prasad Pandey from the post of Manipur University Vice Chancellor concluded today.
Normal life of the people also remained affected by the general strike today.
Only a few vehicles could be seen on many of the major roads of the State including the State highways and the inter-district roads of the State.
Khwairamband Keithel and its surrounding areas remained deserted throughout the day.
The result of the general strike could also be seen at Thoubal, Kakching and Bishnupur districts as well.
Many bandh supporters were seen coming out on the streets and preventing vehicular traffic at various parts of Imphal.
In the morning, bandh supporters even vandalised goods and produces brought to Khwairamband Keithel.
The number of officials and staff at many Government offices remained extremely low.
Banks, schools, colleges as well as private establishments remained closed.
However, flight services remained unaffected by the bandh.
It may be mentioned that a large number of police personnel were deployed at Raj Bhavan, CM Secretariat and BJP office during the bandh.
It is also reported that two police teams are deployed near the RSS office at Nagamapal.
Even though the bandh has concluded, security remained on alert as the Monsoon Assembly session will begin from tomorrow.
It is reported that additional security forces are being deployed at Thangmeiband, Chingmeirong and other prime locations of Imphal as security measures.
