Students protest Moreh firing, denounce attack on student leader

Kangpokpi, July 19 2018:
Exhibiting its strongest disapproval over the Moreh firing on July 13, student communities staged sit-in-protest at Motbung under the aegis of TSA Sadar Hills demanding the State Government not to remain a mute spectator over the incident.
More than 300 students from various educational institutions in Kangpokpi District gathered at Motbung near the National Highway 2 (Imphal-Dimapur) road at around 12 noon denouncing the alleged brutal attack on the president of TSA Moreh on July 13 by armed assailants at his residential house at Gamnom Veng, Moreh Ward No 2 .
The students held placards which reads, "Lawless people has no place in civil society", 'Declared attacker(s) as terrorist", "Stop gun culture, we have the right to life without fear", "What is the use of Moreh Police", "How long will Moreh Police take to arrest the culprits?", "Why Moreh Police are silent on this heinous crime?", "Our silence will encourage the culprits, Lets rise up together against injustice", "The culprits must be shown justice", "Manipur Govt save Moreh students", "Live and let live", etc.
The student communities are against such violence and we condemn the indiscriminate firing at a residential houses in Moreh town which created fear among the students/community, said a student.
The protest demanded thorough investigation and arrest of the persons involved in the firing.
The perpetrators must be book and punished according to the law of the land so as to avoid such communal act in future, said another student who took part in the protest.
TSA Sadar Hills conveyed its support to TSA Chandel and Tengnoupal in future course of action regarding the issue and warned the Government that it will mobilise the student community if the culprits are not arrested at the earliest.
Meanwhile, the Thadou Students' Association, Delhi and NCR also strongly condemned the firing at Gamnom Veng, Moreh Ward No 2 .
Paosei Haokip, president TSA Delhi and NCR said that such attack on students' leaders happens frequently in the State and appealed the State Government to take serious measures to nab the culprits involve in the firing and initiate drastic steps to avoid such incidents in future.
The TSA Delhi and NCR demanded the perpetrators of Moreh incident to claim responsibility.
It further cautioned the Government that will endorse and support any movement in connection with the incident to get justice.
