Imphal, March 11 2013:
Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh today launched the State Government's dynamic website http://Manipur.gov.in at his office here.
The State Government has claimed that launching of the website is a significant landmark in the implementation of e-Governance in Manipur and said that it would enable to a large extent, participative and inclusive governance by making available to the citizens, updated information of various Departments, schemes, orders, notifications etc.
According to a statement issued by Department of Information Technology, Government of Manipur, the website has been in existence for quite a while under the administrative control of the National Informatics Centre (NIC) Manipur unit.
However, as NIC is an entity of the Government of India, it was difficult for NIC to co-ordinate with all the Government Departments and Agencies for update information to be uploaded on the website on a regular basis.
Consequently, a decision was taken by the Chief Secretary to entrust the administrative charge of the website to the State Government through the Department of IT.
The early website of NIC, which was a static website and difficult to manage and update, was therefore, totally revamped into a dynamic website and is being launched today.
In addition to the government of Manipur website http://manipur.gov.in, the Department of IT is also maintaining a State Portalhttp://manipurportal.mn.gov.in where a citizen can avail of online services.
Application to these services is online and can be done through the Common Service Centres which are equipped with VSATs.
Presently 40 services of seven Departments are available and 25 more services will be added during 2013-14, payment Gateway will also be integrated with the State Portal so that payment for the online services can be done through Internet Banking, Credit/Debit cards.
With the launching of this Government of Manipur website as a part of implementing e-governance, transparent, efficient and cost effective governance, as can only be provided by e-Governance, is no longer a dream anymore.
