The first Maj Jyotin Laishram AC, Memorial Football Tournament organised by troops of Logtak Brigade under Red Shield Division concluded today at Kwakta football ground with Kwakta Football Team wresting the title by defeating Moirang Football Team in an exciting match which went on till sudden death in penalty shoot outs.
This tournament marked the coming together of local communities on common platform involving soccer which has become a model for other states.
The tournament has been instituted as a mark of respect to the gallant act displayed by the brave son of Manipur, Maj Laishram Jyotin Singh, Ashok Chakra who made the supreme sacrifice while fighting a suicide bomber during the attack on the Indian Embassy in Kabul, Afghanistan.
He was awarded the Ashok Chakra, the highest peacetime gallantry award in the Indian Armed Forces on 26 Jan 2011 .
Addressing the gathering Brig PC Nair, Commander Logtak Brigade appreciated the rich sports culture of Manipur and conveyed the resolve of security forces in continuously fostering the bond of friendship with locals.
He gave prizes amounting to One Lac & Seventy Five thousand to both the teams as well as incentives to the semifinal teams, Golden Boot award and facilitated the tournament officials.
