Imphal, October 09 2015 :
Manipur Chief Minister O Ibobi and Works Minister Dr Kh Ratankumar had announced on the floor of the Legislative Assembly that the State Government will inaugurate the Manipur Bhawan in Guwahati soon.
However, the announcement is yet to be translated into action.
The construction work of Manipur Bhawan in Guwahati started in 2003-2004 with an aim to provide accommodation facilities to the people of the State while in transit or coming for work in the city.
However, the Government has failed to inaugurate the Bhawan as construction work was still on even after ten years.
The site for Manipur Bhawan at Ulubari, Guwahati was acquired during former Chief Minister of Manipur Wahengbam Nipamacha's regime in 2001 at a total cost of Rs 1,21,43,915.A total amount of Rs.14.66 crore was sanctioned to build the Bhawan.
It is said that the subsequent State Government's apathy had led to the incompletion of three-storey Bhawan.

It may be recalled that during the Manipur Legislative Assembly session in July, 2012, Minister Dr Kh Ratankumar had informed the House that the Bhawan will be inaugurated in August, 2012.During the Manipur Legislative Assembly session in June, 2013, Chief Minister O Ibobi again promised to inaugurate the building soon.
Sources informed that the doors and toilets of the Bhawan are yet to be made and as a result of its non-completion, the Government of Manipur has been using Richo Hotel as State Bhawan spending Rs 32,000 per month as the hotel rent.
A team led by former minister and BJP Manipur Pradesh Spokesperson M Hemanta had already inspected the incomplete Bhawan in Guwahati recently.
After the visit, M Hemanta said that Guwahati has been the main transit point for the Manipuris while travelling outside the State.
Manipur Government has promised to inaugurate the Bhawan in 2012 and 2013 but people are disappointed with the Government's repeated failure, said Hemanta.
