Chakpikarong, October 09 2015 :
A makeshift bridge built by local denizens over the Chakpi river was swept away on Friday by the swollen river current as incessant rain continued to lash the State in the last two days.
The earlier RCC bridge over Chakpi river snapped during the flash flood which occurred on July 31 last.
Mention may be made that the bridge was constructed way back in 1966 by a Calcutta, now Kolkata, based company.
The makeshift bridge was then built by the locals.

Talking to the media, MDC of Chakpikarong DCC NI Warnagm said that people of Chakpikarong have suffered enough due to the collapse of the RCC bridge.
And now, the temporary bridge which was built by the locals from their own resources has been damaged, he said.
Considering the suffering of the locals, the responsible authority of the State has been urged to do the needful, he said.
However, no positive response is visible from the side of the Government till date, he added.
Expressing dissatisfaction, Nl Warnagm said that construction of a suspension bridge or a Bailey bridge will be the only option to avoid similar disaster and disappointment in future.
