National Postal Week kicks off

With Manipur celebrating the National Postal Week from October 9 to October 15, Director of Posts, Manipur Division, Vinod Kumar, inaugurated the events which will be organised during the whole week.
On the first day today a meeting of Post Forum was organised at the Imphal Head Post Office, in which people from various fields took part.

Solicitor General and Md Raheijuddin Sheikh, Principal Manipur College, Imphal attended the first day of the Post Week.
Addressing the meeting Vinod Kumar said that post forum is a part of postal system now, an initiative by India Post to exchange views with important customers.
"The forum has given a fresh breath of life as far as interaction between consumers and postal authorities is concerned and we are now keen to have this forum on a regular basis in office.
This is the only forum where there is a direct interface with the customer," said Kumar.
On the other hand, today more than 30 students of TG Higher Secondary School, Imphal visited the Imphal Head Post Office and they took keen interest in understanding postal functions.
After taking a tour of the post office, students came to the training hall and a session on how to write letters, correct addresses and use of pin code etc was conducted.
Some tree samplings were also planted by the students along with the Director in the compound of Imphal head office.
While speaking about the details of forthcoming events during this week, Kumar explained that every day is being celebrated with an objective to give thrust on a special area, hence different activities will be held every day.
Post office system touches different walks of life, including mail business, savings bank, retail or remittance services.
In this connection it is also pertinent to mention here that a special campaign for the redressal of public grievances has been commenced to keep complaints at minimum level.
"As part of the National postal week, we will be addressing the issue of popularisation of postal facilities among the people.
Right from Postal Life Insurance in urban and rural areas, to the savings accounts we wish to propagate the various facilities that the Postal Department provides," said Kumar further.
To improve customer services, special sessions on soft skills will be organised as part of the National postal week and Md.Akbar Khan, Certified Counsellor by Psytech International, UK will be invited.
To create colourful interest in members of public especially young generation special emphasis will be given to "My Stamp" service in which a person can walk into a post office to get his/her picture clicked and get 12 personalised stamps with her/his photo.
These personalised stamps with the photo can be used for sending mail besides keeping them as souvenir, said Kumar and added that there are 17 different templates for a person to choose from.
India has the largest postal network in the world with over 1, 54,882 Post Offices (as on 31.03.2014) of which 89.86% are in the rural areas.
In addition, the week will also feature events like customer meet, tree plantation, rural postal life insurance mela in various districts of Manipur.
The schedule for the National Postal Week are Oct 9 � World Post Day, Oct 10� Saving Bank Day, Oct 12� Mail Day, Oct 13� Philately Day, Oct 14� Postal Life Insurance Day and Oct 15 � Business Development Day.
