Imphal, October 09 2015 :
Certain irregularities have come to light in the admission process of MSc 1st semester in Life Sciences (Botany) for the academic session 2015-16 in DM College of Science.
On September 19 last, Life Sciences Department issued a list of 25 students selected for admission in the course, said a source.
Of these 25 students, 11 were selected in the unreserved/general category, four in OBC, eight in ST and one each in sports and SC categories, the source added.
Of the 11 students selected in the unreserved/general category, five students did not turn up for admission within the stipulated deadline.
However, instead of giving a chance to the students, who are in the waiting list of this category, the college authority granted admission to four students, who are in the waiting list of OBC category, the source said.
Although, the Department has argued that the OBC candidates were granted admission based on their merits, this system of granting admission to the candidates of other categories when seats are vacant in a particular category is not practised in any of the Departments of the premier college of the State, the source said.
Even though senior faculty members and HODs of other Departments have opined that the system adopted by Life Sciences Department is not right, the Department has refused to change its stance.
Due to this irregularity, many deserving students of the unreserved/general category have been denied admission in the Department, the source said.
Some senior faculties observed that college Principal must immediately look into the matter as the departments of a same college can't have different systems of admission.
