Constitutional Day observed

Commemorating adoption of Manipur State Constitution Act, 1947 on January 1, 1947, Humanist Party, Manipur State Council observed Constitutional Day at its party office premises with General Secretary Y Biren Singh in the chair yesterday.
During the observance, it was also declared the Humanist Party would be boycotting the state Assembly election scheduled on January 28, 2012 .
The function started off with lighting of candle and offering of floral tributes to the Constitution.
Speaking at the occasion, Y Biren recalled that the Manipur State Constitutional Act, 1947 is a de jure Constitution enacted by Maharaja Bodhachandra.
Accordingly, the first election to the State Assembly was conducted in June, 1948 and the first Constitutional Assembly was inaugurated by the Maharaja on October 18, 1948 and the Constitutional Government was installed on November 27, 1948 .
Thus, Manipur became a politically independent state ion Asia after the end of Second World War and establishment of UNO with the stated objective of bringing peace and security in the world, he observed, while asserting that Manipur State Constitution Act, 1947 was never suspended by the authority.
