L Devendro down after a spirited fight

State Devendro Singh lost to Paddy Barnes of Ireland 18-23 in the quarterfinals as India's medal hopes dashed in the light flyweight (49kg) category of the London Olympics on Wednesday.
Devendro surprised his Irish opponent Paddy as he launched flurry of punches right from the word go which also fetched Devendro few points early on but the seasoned Paddy led the first round with a 7-5 scoreline.
Paddy kept his cool against aggressive Devendro as he scored crucial points from occasional punches.
Devendro lost two crucial penalty points for attempting headbutt against his Irish opponent in the second round.
Paddy increased his overall tally to 17-10 after the second round.
Paddy won the second round 10-5 against Devendro.
Beijing Olympics bronze medalist Paddy exhibited his experience against fearless Devendro as he avoided him most of the time in the third and final round.
Paddy relied on his occasional punches while Devendro was in no mood to surrender as he unleashed immaculate punches to seal the third round 8-6 in his favour but it was not enough to take him through to the semifinals.
Earlier in the Olympics, Devendro beat Beijing Olympics silver medalist Serdamba Purevdorj of Mongolia in round of 16 to move into the quarterfinals of the London Olympics.
Devendro started off his Olympic campaign in style as he outpunched Bayron Molina Figueroa of Honduras in the round of 32 after referee stopped the contest.
