Imphal, August 05 2011:
The problems faced by the people of Manipur while transecting money from ATM booths will be solved within a year by opening many other ATM booths in the state,
sources said.
At present the people of the state suffer a lot while transecting money from ATM booths.
One of the most important problems being faced by the people is the long queues which waste a long time.
Over and above, the problem of cash-out (balance empty) is another big issue.
Many customers spend a whole day just to withdraw a small amount of money.
The Channel Manager SBI, Imphal, Prabal Gogoi, talking to Hueiyen Lanpao, said that SBI is now planning to set up a number of ATMs in the state which will solve the problems faced by the customers.
Such kind of problems is due to the limited number of ATM booths in comparison with the number of customers, lack of proper power supply coupled with technical problems.
Irregular supply of power greatly affects the proper running of ATM booths.
It also causes technical problem to ATMs.
Regarding the cash-out (balance empty), he further said that this problem happens very rarely.
He claimed that almost all booths have sufficient balance.
Regarding the over crowding in ATM booths, he said that the authority is planning to set up four ATM booths within two months time.
They will be set up in Imphal Secretariate, Porompat, MG Avenue SBI and Churchandpur.
He also further said that if any ATM boot is transacted by more than 300 persons per day, then the authority will set up another ATM booth near it.
Going back to the history of ATM boots in Manipur, the Channel Manager said that the new system of transacting money from ATM booths in the state started in 2005 .
At that time there was only one ATM booth at MG Avenue.
In 2007 the number of ATMs rose to six.
And now there are 33 SBI ATM booths in Manipur.
Out of this 23 are in Imphal and the remaining 10 ATMs are located in Bishnupur, Thoubal and other hill districts.
He further added that the crowding in SBI ATM is due to the cross transaction from other banks.
To cop this problem the authority has decided to set up 10 ATM booths in this year.
