Imphal, August 05 2011:
The Zeliangrong Youth Front (Assam, Manipur & Nagaland) strongly urged the state government to seek views and opinions of different communities residing in the Sadar Hills prior to taking concrete decision regarding the demand raised by the Sadar Hills District Demand Committee.
Different communities have been living in the Sadar Hills since time immemorial, with the Zeliangrong people in more than 20 villages contiguously situated to the Sadar Hills, stated a press release by its general secretary Thaingamlung Gangmei today.
The release further appealed the government not to take a hasty decision for declaration of Sadar Hills into a full-fledged district but to do so only after consultation with other communities to ensure impartiality, security and welfare of other communities.
The ZYF (AMN) also appealed to the SHDDC to call off the ongoing general strike in the larger interest of the people.
