Imphal, March 06 2020:
Concerned over the rampant leakage of examination question papers, Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) has stressed on the importance of a collective effort of the public and all the stakeholders to eradicate the menace.
Speaking to media persons at DESAM office at Kwakeithel today, its secretary general Leishangthem Lamyanba narrated that there was a huge scandal back in 2017 when the Class XII Physics question paper leaked.
Fast forward to 2020, Class XI question papers for a lot of papers/subjects were leaked and DESAM and AIMS spilled the beans about the leak to the public and the Council of Higher Secondary Education (COHSEM).
Then, yesterday, MIL question papers for the Class X examination conducted by the Board of Secondary Education Manipur (BSEM) was leaked.
Lamyanba then lamented that shockingly, the Biology question papers for the Class XII examination was leaked today.
He claimed that even though the exam was supposed to start at 10 am today, DESAM and AIMS received a copy of the question paper at around 9.48 am after it got leaked on various social media sites.
When the authorities and the Council were approached for confirmation, it was found that the leaked question was genuine, he informed, stressing on the need to weed out the disease in the education sector of the State before it is too late.
Strict actions need to be taken up against the culprits in these cases to discourage others in the future and also to save the academic atmosphere.
Due to the lack of any penal provision and penalty when it comes to such acts, people who have been found involved in question leaks have not been punished till date.
Urging the State Government to do the needful at the earliest, Lamyanba demanded the Government to take a Cabinet decision within three days and pass a Penal Provision Penalty Act.
The Govt must deliberate on the process of examinations being conducted in the State for necessary correction.
It must also award befitting punishment to the people involved in such crimes within 15 days, he demanded cautioning that the student union will initiate stringent agitation if its demands are not fulfilled.
On the other hand, the Secretary of COHSEM has issued a statement informing that an FIR has been filed with CID, Crime Branch for necessary investigation into the question leakage.
It also appealed to one and all to offer cooperation in identifying the culprits and ensuring appropriate punishment for their act.
